Meeting with Mrs. Elena Ajmone Sessera, the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Azerbaijan

On June 17, 2020, Mrs. Bahar Muradova, the Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs held an online meeting with Mrs. Elena Ajmone Sessera, the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Azerbaijan.

The meeting was attended by Mrs. Sadagat Gahramanova and Mrs. Aynur Sofiyeva, the Deputy Chairs of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs,Mrs. Emanuela Bertingi, ICRC Coordinator on Defense, Ms. Turana Bagirova, the person in charge of restoring family ties, and a group of employees of the Committee.

The activities of ICRC related to the problems of Azerbaijani citizens in conflict zones and the cooperation of ICRC with the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Committee, response measures connected with COVID-19 and other issues were discussed during the online meeting.

Mrs. Bahar Muradova, stressed the importance of taking Azerbaijani children from conflict zones to their homeland and expressed gratitude for the support provided in this work. She noted that the work carried out to date on the reintegration of Azerbaijani children into society, their involvement in education, social and psychological rehabilitation is commendable. The staff of the Committee was also involved in this work and provided psychological and social services to the children within the scope of its authority.

Later, Mrs. Elena Ajmone Sessera thanked the Azerbaijani government and the Committee for the work done to return Azerbaijani children from the conflict zones to the country and stressed the importance of any support provided. Noting the humanitarian and social needs, she spoke about the work done in the field of integration of such families into society, the restoration of family ties, social and psychological support, access to education and health services.
